Our Commitment

JOHYA is committed to offering you only natural gemstones, the authenticity, origin, and any treatments of which are disclosed transparently, in accordance with:

  • Decree No. 2002-65 of January 14, 2002, concerning the trade in gemstones and pearls
  • In accordance with the rules established by the CIBJO (International Confederation of Jewelers, Goldsmiths, Diamond, Pearl, and Gemstone Dealers)
  • In accordance with the international standards of reference laboratories (GIA, Gübelin, SSEF, AGL, CDTEC)

Origin of the stones

JOHYA sources its gemstones directly from Colombia, primarily from the Muzo region (Boyacá Department), which is renowned for its exceptional emeralds. The traceability of each stone is documented from the time of acquisition through to the time it goes on sale.

Emerald Treatments

Virtually all emeralds sold worldwide undergo treatment designed to improve the stone's clarity by reducing the visibility of natural inclusions. The most common treatment is impregnation with oil (cedar oil) or resin.

JOHYA consistently discloses the type and intensity of treatment on each product sheet, in accordance with international nomenclature:

  • No treatment (no oil)
  • Insignificant
  • Minor (minor / F1)
  • Moderate (F2)
  • Significant (significant / F3)

Gemological Certificates

Stones of particular value or significance are accompanied by a certificate issued by an independent gemological laboratory. The certificate specifies, among other things, the carat weight, dimensions, color, clarity, geographic origin (when verified), and the level of treatment detected.

Guarantee of Authenticity

JOHYA guarantees that every stone sold matches the description provided on its product page. In the event of a dispute, the Customer may request a comparative analysis by a recognized independent laboratory. If the analysis confirms that the gemstone substantially does not conform to the description, JOHYA will issue a full refund, including the costs of the analysis and return shipping, limited to what is strictly necessary to establish the non-conformity.

Maintenance and Preservation

Since emeralds are relatively fragile stones that are sensitive to impact, solvents, and sudden temperature changes, it is recommended that you:

  • Remove them before doing any manual work, exercising, or coming into contact with chemicals (perfumes, creams, household cleaners)
  • Clean them only with a soft, slightly damp cloth
  • Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, which can damage the treatments
  • Store them separately from other jewelry to prevent scratches

A professional can apply a new oil treatment periodically to preserve the stone's luster.
